Hosting in Japan

Hosting

Is there an advantage to hosting a website in Japan? We suspect that there might be. It would be one indicator to the search engines that your website is legitimately Japanese and merits higher ranking in Japanese searches. We ourselves have not hosted a site in Japan for ten years or so, so we don’t really know what the options are. In the past it was very expensive. Indeed, many smaller Japanese companies host their sites on U.S. servers.

If you want to try hosting in Japan, here are a few choices:

  • tsukaeru.net (or maybe not)
  • lolipop.jp
  • onamae-server.com
  • chicappa.jp
  • firstserver.ne.jp

If you want to set up a lot of sites in Japan on different IP addresses, 123Server will sell you a hosting plan with up to 1,000 distinct IP addresses.

And there are several databases of rental server companies. In the United States these kinds of sites usually are on the take and get a good referral fee as affiliates. I’m not sure how it works in Japan. Caveat emptor:
